Anna Yiaxi Savvidou is a Cypriot visual artist from Nicosia, currently based in New York City, whose work examines the human condition, a collage of memories, lost time, absurd simulations, and persistent efforts
Yiaxi Savvidou's work is driven by curiosity and a desire to challenge what she knows and believes. Understanding that truth and reality are subjective, she resists offering definitive conclusions or fixed ideology. At its core, her work examines the human condition, a collage of memories, lost time, absurd simulations, and persistent efforts. Themes of birth, death, rebirth, pain, and the longing for connection or merging are central to her practice.
These ideas manifest physically in dysfunctional robots that exist as metaphors for human struggle, vulnerability, and self-sabotage. Acting as avatars of existential difficulty, both physical and psychological, they reinforce themes of imperfection, autonomy, and limitation. In parallel, kombucha cultures evoke a haunting, almost abject quality, resembling human tissue and reflecting the body's fragility. Her sculptural installations fuse rigid materials like metal and glass with malleable elements. Found objects, engine parts, hydraulic systems introduce nostalgia, tension, or unease. The interplay between organic and mechanical components mirrors broader themes of time, transformation, and flux.
Anna Antonia Yiaxi Savvidou is a visual artist born in Nicosia, Cyprus, in 1996. Yiaxi Savvidou obtained her MFA in Sculpture/ Dimensional Studies from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in 2025.
