Through painting, drawing and writing, Lara Marino explores how desire, hunger and domination shape images of the female body.
Lara Marino explores how desire, hunger and domination shape images of the female body. Working through painting, drawing and writing, she examines the ways bodies are produced, regulated and consumed through social and affective structures. Hunger appears throughout her practice as appetite, lack, obsession and discipline, acting upon the body as much as upon its representation. Working primarily with oil paint, sometimes combined with blood, she develops images through processes of accumulation, alteration and erosion. Figures emerge in unstable states, suspended between construction and collapse. Her work approaches the body and its environment as interdependent sites shaped by control, dependency and destruction.
Lara Marino (b. 1998, Switzerland) is a visual artist based in Lausanne. She graduated from ECAL – University of Art and Design Lausanne in 2021 and studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam through an Erasmus exchange. After completing her studies, she returned to Indonesia, where she had spent part of her childhood, and worked there for two years while collaborating with local artists and collectives. Her practice has since developed through exhibitions, residencies and research programmes across Europe, Asia and the United States, including the School of Visual Arts in New York and GlogauAIR in Berlin. She is also the co-founder of Espace 28, an independent exhibition space and collective initiative supporting emerging artists in Lausanne.
