Maya Smira is a multidisciplinary artist working with photography, video, installation, dance, and performance. Her practice explores the relationship between body and landscape, culture and femininity, shaped by geopolitical changes and tensions. Maya investigates global and personal transformations through movement, stillness, and time. Her work merges documentary and staged imagery, using her photographs as raw material for digital collages, videos, and animations. Often performing for the camera, she incorporates simple gestures to merge body and geography, creating symmetrical or fantastical spaces that feel both familiar and futuristic. With minimal camera action and a focus on repetition, her videos mirror photography, unfolding slowly to reveal the social and spatial dynamics between bodies, territories, and technologies.
