Défloré(e)s (Deflowered) is a solo exhibition by Valérie Hallier. Composed of six site-specific wall pieces, a sound component and a video projection, this new series of work expands on the theme of deflowering, from the French term déflorer, which refers to the loss of one’s freshness. The resulting installation stages visualizations of the first sexual act, as described by collected stories, and as it pertains to Eros and Thanatos (sex and death). In-between nature and culture, often human-altered and symbolically potent all over the world, flowers in Hallier’s work speak of our connection and disconnection with the natural world and with our own human nature, its carnal and finite qualities.
Due to COVID regulations, attendance is limited for the opening reception. Email info@narsfoundation.org to RSVP.
