Join us for The Magic of Moving Pictures, a free Animation Workshop series led by teaching artist Maya Perry at the Sunset Park Public Library! Designed for children ages 6–14 from the Sunset Park community and beyond, this hands-on series introduces young artists to the history and techniques of animation through playful exploration and storytelling.
Over the course of several weeks, students will discover how still images come to life through persistence of vision, from early optical toys like thaumatropes and flipbooks to modern stop-motion techniques using paper, clay, everyday objects, and even their own bodies. Each session builds foundational animation skills while nurturing curiosity, collaboration, and creative confidence.
From crafting a flipbook, storyboarding an idea, to animating with clay or fabric, students will engage deeply with art and technology—bringing their imagination to motion one frame at a time.
This workshop series is free to attend, and all materials are provided by NARS Foundation in partnership with the Sunset Park Public Library. Children participating should be at least 6 y/o.

¡Acompáñanos en La magia de las imágenes en movimiento, una serie gratuita de talleres de animación dirigida por la artista docente Maya Perry en la Biblioteca Pública de Sunset Park!
Diseñada para niños y niñas de 6 a 14 años de la comunidad de Sunset Park y más allá, esta serie práctica introduce a jóvenes artistas a la historia y las técnicas de la animación a través de la exploración lúdica y la narración de historias.
A lo largo de varias semanas, los estudiantes descubrirán cómo las imágenes fijas cobran vida a través de la persistencia de la visión, desde juguetes ópticos tempranos como taumátropos y flipbooks hasta técnicas modernas de stop-motion utilizando papel, arcilla, objetos cotidianos e incluso sus propios cuerpos. Cada sesión desarrolla habilidades fundamentales de animación mientras fomenta la curiosidad, la colaboración y la confianza creativa.
Desde crear un flipbook y hacer un storyboard de una idea, hasta animar con arcilla o tela, los estudiantes explorarán profundamente el arte y la tecnología, dando movimiento a su imaginación cuadro por cuadro.

从制作翻页书、设计故事板，到用黏土或布料创作动画，学生将结合艺术与科技，一格一格地把想象变成会动的故事。
本系列工作坊免费参加，所有材料由 NARS Foundation 与日落公园公共图书馆合作提供。参加儿童须年满 6 岁。
