Join us for the first session of our Saturday Free Family Workshop series, led by teaching artist Cynthia Reynolds.
In this hands-on family workshop, students will learn about Op Art and explore how lines, colors, and patterns can appear to shift or spin when set in motion. Op art, short for optical art, is a style of art that uses patterns, shapes, and contrast to create the illusion of movement.
In this workshop, students will design and create their own spinning paper toy using drawing, collage, and simple materials. After building their spinners, they will experiment with how pattern, weight, and shape affect movement, discovering how art and physics can come together in playful and surprising ways.
Led by teaching artist Cynthia Reynolds, the NARS Saturday Free Family Workshop is designed to engage families with children 4-8 years old in creative, hands-on art activities. These workshops offer a welcoming space for families to explore contemporary art and diverse cultural expressions together in a fun and supportive environment.
Through these experiences, we aim to foster curiosity, critical thinking, confidence, active participation, and a deeper appreciation of both contemporary artistic practices and the rich cultural perspectives that shape them.
Registration preferred. This program is designed for a maximum of 20 families.

Acompáñenos en la primera sesión de nuestra serie Taller Familiar Gratuito de los Sábados, dirigida por la artista educadora Cynthia Reynolds.
En este taller familiar práctico, los estudiantes aprenderán sobre el Op Art y explorarán cómo las líneas, los colores y los patrones pueden parecer cambiar o girar cuando se ponen en movimiento. El Op Art, abreviatura de arte óptico, es un estilo artístico que utiliza patrones, formas y contrastes para crear la ilusión de movimiento.
En este taller, los estudiantes diseñarán y crearán su propio juguete giratorio de papel usando dibujo, collage y materiales sencillos. Después de construir sus discos giratorios, experimentarán con cómo el patrón, el peso y la forma afectan el movimiento, descubriendo cómo el arte y la física pueden unirse de maneras divertidas y sorprendentes.
Dirigido por la artista docente Cynthia Reynolds, el Taller Familiar Gratuito de los Sábados de NARS está diseñado para involucrar a familias con niñas y niños de 4 a 8 años en actividades artísticas creativas y prácticas. Estos talleres ofrecen un espacio acogedor donde las familias pueden explorar juntas el arte contemporáneo y diversas expresiones culturales en un ambiente divertido y de apoyo.
A través de estas experiencias, buscamos fomentar la curiosidad, el pensamiento crítico, la confianza, la participación activa y una apreciación más profunda tanto de las prácticas artísticas contemporáneas como de las ricas perspectivas culturales que les dan forma.

欧普艺术，又称“光效应艺术”和“视幻艺术”，是一种运用图案、形状和对比来创造运动错觉的艺术风格。在这个动手家庭工作坊中，学生将了解欧普艺术，并探索线条、色彩和图案在运动中如何产生变化或旋转的视觉效果。在本次工作坊中，学生将使用绘画、拼贴和简单材料，设计并制作自己的纸质旋转玩具。完成作品后，学生将实验图案、重量和形状如何影响旋转效果，发现艺术与物理如何以有趣又令人惊喜的方式结合在一起。
由教学艺术家 Cynthia Reynolds 带领的 NARS 周六免费家庭工作坊，专为有 4 至 8 岁儿童的家庭设计，希望通过亲手参与的艺术活动，让家庭在轻松、友善的氛围中，一起接触当代艺术与多元文化表达。
通过这样的体验，我们希望培养孩子们的好奇心、思辨能力、自信心与主动参与的意识，同时加深大家对当代艺术实践以及塑造这些实践的丰富文化视角的理解与欣赏。

This workshop is provided free of charge by the NARS Foundation to the partnering location of Sunset Park Library, and free of charge to all participants. This is made possible through generous support from Con Edison, and the City Council for District 38.
