Private Public Art: Miniatures & Maquettes

Saturday Free Family Workshop

Saturday, November 14, 2026, 2–4pm
Location: Brooklyn Public Library – Sunset Park Branch

Join us for the third session of our Saturday Free Family Workshop series, led by teaching artist Cynthia Reynolds!

In this hands-on family workshop, students will explore the world of public art and discover how artists transform ideas into large-scale works that engage with shared spaces. Through an introduction to colorful public art examples, students will learn about scale, form, and how people interact with artwork in their everyday environments.

Using found and everyday materials, including felt, foam core, collage materials, and recycled objects, students will design and build their own miniature models, or maquettes, of imagined public artworks. Participants will experiment with color, texture, and three-dimensional forms as they assemble their creations, considering where their artwork might be installed, how large it could become, and how people might experience it in a public space.

Led by teaching artist Cynthia Reynolds, the NARS Saturday Free Family Workshop is designed to engage families with children 4–8 years old in creative, hands-on art activities. These workshops offer a welcoming space for families to explore contemporary art and diverse cultural expressions together in a fun and supportive environment.

Through these experiences, we aim to foster curiosity, critical thinking, confidence, active participation, and a deeper appreciation of both contemporary artistic practices and the ways art can shape and connect our shared public spaces.

Registration preferred. This program is designed for a maximum of 20 families.

Arte público imaginario: miniaturas y maquetas

Taller Familiar Gratuito de los Sábados

Sábado, 14 de noviembre de 2026, 2–4pm
Lugar: Biblioteca Pública de Brooklyn – Sucursal de Sunset Park

‍
